If you've ever experienced a headache before, you are probably aware of how crippling it can be. One of the best ways to try and prevent a headache is to recognise the things that may trigger it and try to avoid it the best you can.
Here are KHC, we know how debilitating a headache can be and the impact it can have on your everyday activities. That is why our amazing practitioners have provided you with 10 tips that you can try to help reduce headache symptoms.
Try using a heat-pack or cold-pack. This method can sometimes provide relief for headaches caused by muscular tension.
Dehydration can contribute to a headache. Keeping a water bottle close by can remind you to increase your daily water-intake. It is recommended that we drink 2 litres of water per day.
Simple breathing or mindful exercises. Stress can increase the presence of a headache, by practicing simple breathing or mindful activities such as yoga or Pilates it provides us with a moment to relax and refocus our mind.
Avoid drinking too much caffeine and red wine. These types of beverages are common contributors to migraines, try swapping a coffee for a decaffeinated coffee or tea.
Get your 8 + hours of beauty sleep. A lack of good quality sleep can lead to chronic headaches.
Adopt a headache diet. Specific foods are known for influencing headaches. For example, chocolate, aged cheeses are known to increase the likelihood for a headache. Consider using a "headache diary" of the meals and liquids you take on a regular basis or especially when you get headaches.
Dim the lights. Bright lights from outside and technology screens can cause migraines. Try wearing sunglasses/hats when outside!
Self-massages. Try gently massaging your forehead, neck, and temples to help ease a tension headache, which may result from muscular tension.
